Hi mama,
Mom life does not always leave room for “language learning.”
But it does leave room for tiny, funny, real-life moments.
This week, we’re using treat talk to practice one simple French phrase your kids may actually want to repeat: “Je veux…”
No worksheets. No perfect accent required. Just a few playful words at breakfast, dinner, playtime, or while pretending the couch is an ice cream shop.
Your 5 Tiny French Moments
🌞 WEDNESDAY - Morning Moment
“Je veux une glace.” (I want an ice cream.)
At breakfast or before school, make it silly: “What would you like for breakfast?” Then dramatically answer in French: “Je veux une glace.”
Your child can copy you, laugh, or answer with their own pretend order. Keep it light and ridiculous.
Pronunciation: jhuh vuh oon glahs
🍽️ THURSDAY - Dinner Phrase
“Je veux de l’eau, s’il te plaît.” (I want water, please.)
At dinner, model this once when someone asks for a drink. You can say it for yourself first, then invite your child to try if they want.
The “please” keeps it sweet, but the goal is not manners-policing. It’s just a tiny French rhythm at the table.
Pronunciation: jhuh vuh duh loh, seel tuh pleh
🎲 FRIDAY - Play Moment
“Je veux chocolat. Je veux vanille.” (I want chocolate. I want vanilla.)
Pretend to run an ice cream stand for 5 minutes. No supplies needed : hands can be scoops, couch pillows can be cones, stuffed animals can order.
Keep repeating the same two choices: chocolate or vanilla.
Pronunciation: jhuh vuh sho-ko-lah / jhuh vuh vah-nee
❤️ SATURDAY - Connection Phrase
“Je veux un câlin.” (I want a hug.)
Use this one in a soft moment: after a busy outing, before bedtime, or during couch time.
You can say it with open arms, and your child will understand before they translate. That is the magic.
Pronunciation: jhuh vuh uhn kah-lan
🌸 SUNDAY - Seasonal Spark
“Je veux encore.” (I want more / again.)
Use this after a cozy little weekend thing: one more page, one more pretend scoop, one more push on the swing, one more minute of snuggling.
It works beautifully because kids already love asking for “again.”
Pronunciation: jhuh vuh ahn-kor
No-Pressure Tip of the Week
You do not need to correct every word.
If your child says something close, smile and model it back gently.
Warmth helps French stick more than perfection ever will.
