Your 5 Tiny French Moments
🌞 WEDNESDAY - Morning Moment
“On mange dehors ce soir ?” (Are we eating outside tonight?)
At breakfast, say this once while everyone is half-awake and looking for socks.
Point toward the window, patio, picnic blanket, or even the kitchen table if outside is not happening.
Your child can answer with a thumbs-up, thumbs-down, or a dramatic “maybe.”
Pronunciation: ohn mahnjh duh-OR suh swahr?
🍽️ THURSDAY - Dinner Phrase
“Un petit peu ? Ou Beaucoup ?” (A little bit? Or a lot?)
Use this at dinner with something easy: corn, salad, fruit, bread, or pasta.
Offer a tiny amount and keep your voice light, like it is truly no big deal.
You can model the answer softly: “Oui, un petit peu.” (Yes, a little bit.)
Pronunciation: uhn puh-TEE puh? oo boh-KOO? / wee uhn puh-TEE puh.
🎲 FRIDAY - Play Moment
“Je goûte !” (I’m tasting!)
Make a tiny “summer chef” game.
Point to pretend foods, snack foods, or dinner items and say “Je goûte !” before an imaginary bite.
Then pass the turn with “À toi !” (Your turn!)
Pronunciation: jhuh goot! / ah twah!
❤️ SATURDAY - Connection Phrase
“Merci pour le repas.” (Thank you for the meal.)
Use this at the end of lunch, dinner, or even snack time.
It does not need to be fancy. It can be said over paper plates, takeout, or cereal.
You are simply giving your child a sweet little phrase that belongs at the table.
Pronunciation: mehr-see poor luh ruh-PAH.
🌸 SUNDAY - Seasonal Spark
“Il fait chaud !” (It’s hot!)
Say this during a summer moment: walking to the car, eating popsicles outside, setting the table, or opening the back door.
Add a little fan motion with your hand.
Then point to a drink and say “De l’eau ?” (Some water?)
Pronunciation: eel feh show! / duh loh?
No-Pressure Tip of the Week
One phrase said warmly is enough.
You do not need a perfect accent, a perfect routine, or a perfectly willing kid. If French shows up for 20 seconds at the dinner table, it counts.
